Restrictions and Contraindications

Contraindications to radiation therapy for tumors are divided into absolute and relative.

Absolute contraindications include:
  • General severe exhaustion of the patient – cachexia;
  • Stage IV tumors with the presence of distant metastases;
  • Radiation is not administered when the patient, in addition to the tumor, has decompensated forms of diseases of the cardiovascular system, gastrointestinal tract, kidneys, active tuberculosis, etc.;
  • Tumors that are disintegrating or perforated are not irradiated.
Relative contraindications include:
  • Hemoglobin level decreased to 50 g/L;
  • White blood cell count decreased to 2×10⁹/L;
  • Red blood cell count decreased to 3×10¹²/L;
  • Pathological skin conditions in the area of potential irradiation.
